This course examines how authors, playwrights, screenwriters, and songwriters draw inspiration from original literary texts to create new pieces. Through close readings and analysis, we will study foundational texts and their adaptations, paying special attention to the differences between literary retellings, re-imaginings, and intertextuality. By comparing novels, plays, myths, fairy tales, short stories, films, television series, and/or music, we'll investigate how stories evolve and how meaning is reinforced or transformed when adapted across diverse creative forms.
