Technology, Social Media, and Conflict
This course covers the role of technology and social media in both mitigating and exacerbating conflict. It exposes students to violence prevention and conflict transformation approaches used at a local level by exploring cases related to media and institutions and the proliferation of mis/disinformation, conspiracy theories, and malign information operations over social media. It also addresses the emerging field of digital conflict at a macro-level, between nation-states, covering challenges related to cyber security, foreign election interference, and manipulative communication designed to influence, disrupt, and destabilize.
