Biochemistry research in the Dr. Pytko Lab involves using FRET to study the dynamics of DNA secondary structures. DNA secondary structures are a double-edged sword in that they have both biological functions and contribute to disease, namely cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. The goal of these experiments is to better understand what causes the formation and unwinding of these structures to inform potential therapeutics.
