In "Comics and Culture," we will examine the development of comic books in the United States since the 1930s, the ways in which American society has shaped the content of those comics, and the ways comics have in turn shaped American culture. You will develop special analytical skills to see how comics "work." We will tap history, art, literature, ethics, and other subjects to better understand the interplay between comics and culture.
