This introductory media course on photojournalism is for communication students to appreciate the image as documentary. You do not have to be a photographer to take this course although if you are so much the better. Visual literacy is a necessary skill in the 21st century and how we tell the news through images is critical to being producers and consumers of such a vital media no matter which platform these images appear in. Today, Storytelling relies on the image and yet understanding and knowledge relies on the context of that image and its significance. The ethical issues of should we take a photograph and does it tell the truth of the moment will be central to our discussions. We will explore the work of photojournalists, their storytelling through image and the news that results from their art and work.
