You may not realize it, but negotiation is a basic skill we all use in our daily dealings with family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and beyond. Peacebuilding not only provides knowledge in that area but critical life skills for becoming effective and successful negotiators. Students will explore theories and frameworks for understanding negotiation within the field of peace and conflict studies as well as links to related fields such as psychology, communications, anthropology, international relations, and political science. Students will then apply their skills by conducting negotiations through simulation, role play, and practical exercises. The course will emphasize the cultural and gender factors influencing the logic and application of negotiations.
