This special topics course, taught in French, provides an examination of cultural production and histories of trailblazing Francophone African women of 20th and 21st centuries and from different historical periods and geographical areas (France and Africa) within a social and cultural context. Topics such as gender norms, gender roles, female body, identity politics, otherness, migration, social class, and hybridity, colonial and post-colonial societies, literary and cinematic production and representation of women, are among those to be discussed in this course. Study abroad experience recommended. Prerequisites: FR-230 or equivalent or approval of the instructor.
