Kenyan Cultures/Nat Rsrces I
Course Description
This course provides an interdisciplinary and inter-cultural introduction to Kenya through a wide range of experiences. Kenya is an important East Africa nation that is rich in cultural and ethnic diversity. The country has a wide range of habitats from grassy savanna, to lakes and swamps, to mountain highlands. This makes Kenya a perfect country to learn about species such as elephants, lions, hippos, and giraffes. Throughout the country, there is a strong interconnectivity between wildlife, human communities, and natural resource availability. There are also challenges intensified by climate change, drought, ecosystem fragmentation, and human development. An important focus of the visit will be to understand more deeply some of Kenya’s most pressing contemporary and societal challenges.
