Special Topics Course: Culture, Diversity, Conflict, and Peace. This course looks at the dynamic influences of culture and diversity, in their broad definitions, including identities, value systems, religion, modernity, international relations, traditions, economic resources, history, etc., on peace and conflict. Using case studies from the United States and multiple regions of the world, the course will offer a combination of theoretical frameworks for understanding cultural and diversity influences, with applications to actual conflict situations. The course will navigate the various levels of conflicts (interpersonal, community, national, and international), and will employ practical and interactive pedagogies in order to develop participants' skills in utilizing cultural factors for peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
