Welcome! In this FYC section, we will focus on fairy tales from all over the world and various cultures while developing our writing, communication, and critical thinking skills. Fairy tales are literally everywhere we look. They appear in television adverts, games, shows, young adult literature, and other forms of media consumption. But is there an original tale? Where do tales come from? We will begin the semester with an introduction to fairy tales and then shift to analyzing different tales that are considered the same tale type. The course will also look at the historical and cultural context of these tales before examining the meanings and representations found within their wondrous pages. We will end the course discussing adaptations in modern media and how this alters the tales.
