This special topics course will explore the purpose, structure, function of criminal courts in the United States. There will be specific attention placed on the adjudication, prosecution, defense, and sentencing of offenders in the criminal justice system. Students will learn about various reforms affecting the court regarding sentencing, the impact extralegal factors, and judicial selection. Prerequisite: SO-260 or instructor permission.
