First-Year Seminar: Leadership in the Contemporary Age. This first-year seminar course will explore what it means to understand one's self as a leader in the 21st century. We'll draw on case studies from the public and private sectors (focusing on politics and education) to discuss and dissect and critique what constitutes effective leadership. In so doing, we'll talk leadership styles and models. Students will have the opportunity to explore their goals and build their capacities as leaders in an effort to "think about who you are." In addition, campus and community leaders will be frequent visitors to class and will reflect on their experiences, and will provide some of the cases upon which we draw.
