"Shaping the World Through Our Words" Language plays a key role in shaping our understanding of, and our relationship to, culture, identity, and power. In this seminar, we will examine ways that language has historically been, and is currently being, used both by individual speakers and in broader cultural contexts (media, politics, etc.) to establish and express various personal and cultural identities and power structures. In addition to examining the ways in which language shapes societal changes, we will delve into how language is itself shaped by those changes.
