This graduate-level course explores the organization, structure, and function of health care, public health, and regulatory systems worldwide. It critically examines how these systems impact access, quality, and outcomes for diverse populations, with a strong focus on identifying and addressing health disparities. Students will apply cultural competency principles to design and evaluate public health policies, aiming to mitigate cultural biases and promote equity. The course also delves into the complexities of structural bias, social inequities, and racism within health systems, equipping students with advocacy skills to influence and implement policies that enhance health equity. Through a combination of case studies, discussions, and hands-on assignments, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the systemic factors affecting health and will be prepared to propose strategies for meaningful change.
